Seven Passages of Interest Along the The Authentic Journey: From Codependence to Freedom

As your "tour guide" and fellow traveler on this journey, I thought it appropriate to give you some reference points as to where you may already have been and are in the process of moving toward. In any endeavor, the most important first step is to identify where you are NOW. Please remember, unlike regular travel itineraries, this one has no time restrictions… You may remain at any of these Passages of Interest for as long as you’d like… because each journey is individual and specific to your particular learnings on this planet during this lifetime.
Another wonderful concept to understand is that although the journey appears to be linear (horizontal) it is also vertical (multi-layered) as well as multi-dimensional… which is why we love to stay at some points of interest for longer periods of time than others… Each passage is rich with information, growth opportunities and awareness. This of course, is only a brief outline of your specific itinerary, just to give you an idea of what The Authentic Journey may look like: First Passage of Interest: If you’re reading this then you’ve already visited this point: You are born! This marks the beginning of your journey. I include this because we are born “authentic”… it’s who we are. We are truly free, connected to our Source (whatever word level that is for you: be it: God, Buddha, Higher Power, The One, etc.) and are pure, delicate, lovable and pure love. There is no veil to cloud our eyes, so we see “magic” all around and we really get how interconnected we are. There are no words to get in the way… all we know how to do is just BE… right here, right now, in the present moment. Isn’t it amazing to think we spend our entire life searching to come back to this place of authenticity? Second Passage of Interest: Codependence: This is the passage where we are “formed”. Outside forces give our identity to us and we start to forget who we really are. We are no longer content with just “being” who we naturally are; we mold ourselves into who we believe we “should be”. This is done unconsciously and with no malice of intent… it just happens in our society. We assume our beliefs from parents, family, teachers, government, the media, etc… It’s really unavoidable. Many people choose to remain here because it’s safe and comfortable, in a restrictive sort of way. Unfortunately many travelers get lost here and eventually totally lose themselves: in their relationships, their work, and their need for approval. This may look like perpetual people pleasing, attracting and remaining in abusive, addictive relationships, (personal and work), becoming addicts themselves, whether in the form of drugs, alcohol, food, sex, gambling, emotions, etc. These travelers find it challenging to be alone with their own company and although many have wonderfully adept intuitive skills, the intuition is used as a means of survival and skill rather than for spiritual enlightenment. Third Passage of Interest: Who-me dependence: This is the passage that we come to as we start to question our existence and if there’s more to life. Initially the traveler denies any remote possibility of having visited codependence and if there is some sort of recognition it’s in the form of seeing it in his/her fellow travelers but definitely not identifying it as part of him/her self. This often can look like: “Yes, I see how that traveler is “flawed”, BUT I’m not, because I’m way too intelligent for that!” The “who me?... don’t think so!” approach to traveling. That’s their baggage, not mine. I have pretty baggage! This tends to be a very mental place to hang out… and actually has wonderful benefits in terms of developing one’s rationalizing, analytical skills and ability to view others in a detached sort of way… yet it also is conducive to critical thinking, judgmental ness and feelings of superiority coupled with an “us/tbem” view of life. Fourth Passage of Interest: Independence: This is akin to the “terrible two’s” that we all traveled through during our formative years. This is actually a very crucial passage of interest to travel through. While the traveler lingers here he/she is very adamant about being different than and separate from fellow travelers. There is a passion about claiming one’s territory, beliefs and ideas. However, in their zest it can look like an “f--- you” kind of attitude, from a place of defiance and bucking authority. The “what do you think about this? Well, I think the opposite of you, because I can!” syndrome. A very rebellious, however, necessary place to visit. There is a feeling of swinging on a pendulum when you visit here…going from one extreme to the other until a balance point of rest is experienced and embraced. Fifth Passage of Interest: Free-dependence: This is the passage of “free floating”. As if all the hardness and strings of the former passages have been removed and the traveler is just floating… free from anger, resentment, attachments and yet unsure as to where he/she is going next. There’s a sense of freedom yet the traveler also feels somewhat alone on his/her journey. While traveling through this passage it is very common for the traveler to actively pursue spiritual guidance… a desire to connect with something greater than oneself. Sixth Passage of Interest: Interdependence: By now, the traveler has embraced his/her spiritual Self and is recognizing that he/she and fellow travelers are really all connected in a much greater way than previously experienced. There is no sense of us/them, but an embracing of the collective consciousness. There is an urge, a desire to form communities based on partnership, equality, compassion, acceptance and love. The traveler experiences more and more time in the NOW, just being and enjoying life, enjoying others, fully accepting of oneself and others. The traveler has full access to his/her intuition and uses it in a constructive, perhaps even telepathic, healing way. Seventh Passage of Interest: Authenticity: The return to Self. Ah, this passage we get to vacation in periodically… yet, there are no known travelers who actually reside here 100% of the time. This is the passage of infinite possibilities, the “Where do WE go from here…as a collective?” consciousness. This is the passage of ultimate freedom and whatever that may look like… The possibilities are endless… Isn’t that wonderful??
